How Much Does Seamless Gutter Installation Cost?
Seamless aluminum gutters are priced per linear foot installed. Our range runs $12 to $22 per foot for 5-inch and $14 to $24 for 6-inch, with copper higher. Where a job falls depends on material, gutter size, and how difficult the roof is to work. A typical Lowcountry single-story home runs 150 to 200 linear feet with four to six downspouts.

Why the ranges are wide, and why 5-inch and 6-inch overlap. The size of the gutter is a smaller factor than the roof it hangs on. A simple single-story ranch with long straight runs prices near the bottom. What pushes a job toward the top is height, roof pitch, the number of inside and outside corners, difficult access for the truck and the roll former, extra downspouts, and fascia that needs work before anything gets hung on it. That is why a 6-inch system on an easy roof can cost less than a 5-inch system on a hard one.
Downspouts are priced separately at about $6 to $15 per linear foot, and gutter guards run $8 to $10 per linear foot installed.

What size gutters do Charleston homes actually need?
Usually 6-inch, not the builder-standard 5-inch. The reason is capacity. One foot of 5-inch K-style holds about 1.2 gallons. One foot of 6-inch holds about 2.0 gallons, close to 50 percent more water from one extra inch. That margin decides whether a run keeps up when a summer cell drops an inch of rain in under an hour.
The 6-inch profile also pairs with 3×4 downspouts instead of 2×3, which clear pine straw and move water off the roof faster. We spec 5-inch only on smaller, low-pitch roofs where the math supports it. On steep or large roof planes we add downspouts or oversize them rather than let a run overflow.
What we see on Lowcountry roofs: the overflow calls we get sent to are almost always undersized 5-inch builder gutters on homes with big roof planes and live oaks overhead. The gutter is not broken. It was never sized for our rain.

Historic district note: if you are inside Charleston’s Old and Historic District, exterior changes visible from the public right-of-way need a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Board of Architectural Review before a building permit is issued. Residential-scale projects go to the BAR-Small board. We flag this before we start so the material and profile, often copper and half-round, are approved up front.
Do new-construction homes and additions need gutters?
Yes, and it is cheapest to do right the first time. New builds and additions often ship with undersized 5-inch runs or none at all. Sizing seamless gutters correctly at completion protects fresh landscaping, hardscape, and the foundation before the first storm season.
Where does code require downspouts to discharge?
Away from the house. Under IRC Section R801.3, in areas with expansive or collapsible soils, roof drainage has to discharge to the ground at least 5 feet from foundation walls, or to an approved drainage system.
This is where a lot of otherwise clean installs fail. The gutter is fine, but a downspout dumping right at the wall pushes water into the crawlspace. Given how many Lowcountry homes sit on crawlspace and pier foundations, we route the drops and add extensions or underground drains to get water genuinely clear of the footprint.

- Roll seamless to length in your driveway, so the only seams are at corners and outlets.
